Adobe Photoshop CS3:

There is a full version for Windows and Mac, and a demo for both. Krita is easy to use but it’s geared more toward painters than photographers. The only feature that I was able to do with a high degree of accuracy was coloring but when I tried to do anything other than basic image editing, the results were less than impressive.
Paint.Net:
Paint.net is a free online version of Photoshop that’s popular with artists. Paint.net can be used to work on a single layer or multiple layers. It offers some advanced features for photographers but is still a far cry from the full-fat Photoshop, so is only useful for hobbyists or for graphic artists who are comfortable with painting.
