Although you can open most files in Photoshop, you must save the file as a type that Photoshop understands to use the full features of the program.
Here are the most common types of image files:
TIFF: TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is the standard format for a wide range of digital cameras, scanners, and the like. When you import this type of file, you can convert it into many other formats. TIFF is the most common format in the United States because most of the photos created with digital cameras are saved in this format. TIFF is supported by all editing programs, but you may see some differences in how TIFF files are handled.
