Step 1: Open the image you wish to work with.
Download the image you wish to work with to your computer. Save it to the location on your computer where you want to save it (a subfolder called “images” inside your working folder).
Important: Photoshop CS5 files are organized and named differently than Photoshop CS3 and earlier versions. Photoshop CS5 files are organized in the following manner:
– Image Files – the single files on your hard drive where you save your photo files.
– Preview Files – the files saved in a folder called “psd_ previews” inside your working folder.

If you are not saving the files in a subfolder of your working folder named “images,” then you will not be able to open them with Adobe’s Photoshop software.
Photoshop contains an icon in its upper right corner to show you where this location on your hard drive is. If you are not sure where this folder is, simply navigate to your hard drive using Windows Explorer and look for the folder called “images.” Click on that folder, then double-click on the image inside that folder.
Step 2: Open the Photoshop file you wish to work with.
Photoshop allows you to work with multiple Photoshop files at one time, so you can open a separate image file in Photoshop each time you wish to work on a photo. The Photoshop file that you wish to work with is the file in the location named “images” inside the working folder on your computer. Click on this location and double-click on the image file inside. If you are not sure where the file is, use the second method above to find it.
Step 3: Choose an image mode.
From the toolbar at the bottom of the canvas, choose “Image” from the menu. If you can’t see the menu, press the F11 key.
