To be honest, the Steam Client is quite the beast when compared to its more popular counterparts. Yeah, it can be open sourced with the introduction of Steam Play, but despite that fact, the fact is that it is an option separate from the main Steam Client. And considering that the Steam client is, supposedly, open source, it should be no surprise that a lot of people, like me, think that the game launcher is better in feature and performance than Steam Play, because it’s not.
A lot of the features mentioned on this article do not function under Steam Play. Those features that do seem to function well enough, have their own quirks though, and that’s why there are less users than developers on the Steam Play website, compared to the Steam Client website, which is full of active users.

I want to explore some of the lesser known but very entertaining games that I’ve played on Steam.
I will be covering games that are indie in nature, or popular on Steam for a single developer, or unreleased games that have had long waiting lists, or games that I have simply loved.

Indie Games:
The Typing of the Dead
The Typing of the Dead is a relatively well known game due to its free ad supported demo on Steam, but I got really into it for two reasons.
One is that the modding community for this game blew my mind.
The modders in this game are more the I don’t know what, they just love to make stuff for the game, and you can play in coop, single player and survival on so many of the modded maps.
The other is that the game is very quick, quick, quick but it’s still a good challenge, and while the game was a little short, if you can get past the poor map design and editing in the demo it’s a blast.
Tiny Tower
Tiny Tower is a game about as simple as they come. You move from level to level, trying to get the most coffee.
The story and the art is so minimal, you could probably even set this one up on a NES cartridge, yet it is still fun.
The first time I played I was amazed at how customizable the game’s atmosphere is. The music, the visuals, and the layout of your area all define your own version of what this city would be like.
As you move to the next area, your coffee is refilled, but you can also upgrade the building so you have more coffee to spend on furnishing.
You can even unlock new buildings to your heart’s content.
