Galactic Crew is a science fiction roguelike game where you play the role of a scavenger/mercenary in a procedurally generated galaxy. You build ships to fight, mine to get extra credits, loot to get more ships, and explore to get new sights. The game takes place in a highly dangerous, unforgiving, treacherous and polluted galaxy with an infinite number of procedurally generated planets to explore. Only by ship’s luck or a long series of exploration and luck can you survive. The galaxy is filled with rogues, pirates, traders and dangerous enemies. Only the strongest will survive.

Die Erfahrungen von Spacelords and Carbon Empires bring us the game that is close to my heart, Start of Darkness, a RTS with an old school feel to it. Get a chance to jump into the game and check it out for yourselves.

CliffyB here. This is a review based off the pc-edition of Start of Darkness. I’ll be keeping the review on the pc-version exclusively for this one, so bare in mind it may not reflect as well on the console version of the game and its features.

—Graphics-

Start of Darkness is looking absolutely gorgeous, it has a darkly colourful landscape with an old school style to it. The character models themselves are excellently drawn, the mechanical and metal parts look almost as good as RTS games from the 90’s.

—Gameplay-

Start of Darkness has a very old school feel to it, the game is slow paced and doesn’t have that fast moving “RTS” feel to it. Instead it has a “city building” type feel to it. Using your heroes you can raise certain buildings that will assist you in various aspects of gameplay.

For example I raised a building that lets me research mechs, the old man tells me “It’s useless in normal play, but in mission mode it’s well worth the credits for the experience bonus”.

Allthough it has an old school feel to it, there are still lots of modern conveniences in the game. You can build roads, mines, factories, forts, etc that can be placed in certain locations on the map to increase your resources faster, build bases for your units (if they are capable of building them, of course), and can even build repair bays for your base.

These systems sound incredibly simple, but all have a place for when they can be used to

    Waltz had a nightmare last night. A meteor crashed in his backyard while he was sleeping. He awoke in a dark room. He saw giant monsters trying to eat him and an army of zombies devouring his house. Luckily Waltz had a shotgun with him, and with just one shot he killed two monsters. The other monsters fled. He has a feeling they will be back. Now Waltz must stay alive till dawn and hope nothing falls on his head when he wakes up.

    The undead emerged from the graves at the first light of dawn and he killed them in one shot with a shotgun, making a lot of noise so that his neighbors would hear.

    At dusk he had to go to a nearby house to beg for food. The owner was not home. He saw that her cat was still inside, and wanted to take it with him. Instead he took the jar of cat food from the kitchen. As he was putting it in his backpack, the owner came back. She saw the cat and was very angry. She told Waltz that he did not have the right to take her cat. Then she showed Waltz her shotgun and said that if he had “better aim than that” she would kill him. Waltz then took out a knife and cut the cat. Seeing blood, the owner told Waltz to get lost. She was still angry. He decided to leave the cat with her.

    For the next 24 hours Waltz scouted around looking for supplies. He avoided the giants, which he was very afraid of. He found an old tree stump and decided to make it into a giant trap. The rest of the morning he had to defend his house from the zombies. It was very dangerous. In the afternoon, a giant tried to kill him. It was in the tree and it fell onto Waltz. He tried to shoot the monster, but had no gunpowder. He chopped the tree stump into pieces and threw them on the giant. It was
