I have read that SHA-1 is an insecure hashing algorithm. What I don’t understand is why we’d be required to use it at all. In the example of a git repository, a collision vulnerability in SHA-1 would mean that a malicious user could generate a malicious SHA-1 hash and then commit their changes, with the SHA-1 hash appearing as a valid commit. I’m unable to see why this vulnerability would be so rampant, and so damaging, as to make it a requirement for software to be built this way.

It doesn’t mean that a malicious user can commit their changes, it means that a malicious user can change the data being hashed – and you’re right, this could be extremely damaging.
It will turn out to be a problem.
But that doesn’t mean that you have to use SHA-1. It will turn out to be a problem.
(Or, it could be that there’s a problem with the way the SHA-1 is implemented, which may be more subtle than a full change of

I’ve played through the demo on my iPhone, and found it fairly engaging. The controls are responsive and the strategy is made clear with the storytelling. I think it has some well-developed mechanics, like a limited time window to explore each room, and periodic power-ups.
It has a couple of issues, however.

There’s a pretty strong focus on getting through the demo (not to say the full game will be like this, but my impression is that it’s certainly not expected to take very long to get through). I wonder whether the game would have been better had the demo instead focused on getting to know the backstory and engaging with the AI companion more?
