Installation & Uninstallation

YOUR GRIEF – Run, Hide, Love
Recently I reviewed the new The Grievers album, Run, Hide, Love. The band’s benched lead singer and ‘wunderkinds of gothic rock’, Jordan Keenan-Bolger, went on to discuss our promo interview and my blog, and in the process it got me to thinking.
Of the myriad of bands I have interviewed in the last ten years, the one who have given me the most trouble are The Grievers, and, I can tell you, The Grievers give me the most trouble.
It is the ghoulish post-punk aesthetic, the uneven songwriting and style, The Grievers’ fashion sensibilities and freedom-loving management and, most importantly, the fact that there is no drummer, and who in this day and age wants a band without a drummer?
But upon reflection, I realise The Grievers have been at the centre of so much action I have covered in the past I’d have been a bad journalist not to feature them. So with bands that have just released an album – The Grievers’ Run, Hide, Love and, in the case of the Death Bangs story, an explosion of marketing activity that included their leader getting tattooed – I am loath to ignore them.
Namely, they are, to all intents and purposes, the coolest band I know.
So here we are, talking about The Grievers without a drummer. What would we do without their inherent quirkiness and uniqueness of sound?
For my part, I would be stuck in the journalism rut – going to gigs, shooting videos and maybe planting myself at a proper show for a while if I had the budget. No more attending The Grievers’ gigs as The Grievers sound, and their eccentric WTF-ness, will have been lost in monotony. No more, no less.
