He was regarded as a rather simple fellow, simple in his actions. No technical know-how, no inclination to build, like some of the machines. No tool. Only wood. The mincer. That’s all he did. All day he’d stand at the hinge of his kitchen and try to catch hares with a net. That’s all he could say. At least that’s what they said. It was just the two of them. The home’s wife and he. Not even a garden. He just had to walk outside and stop to think. Yet, a certain wisdom was gained there. He tried to cut a rabbit every day while the wife sat at home and waited. Did she do anything? Was she at the dentist? Or perhaps at the cinema? She no longer spoke much. She no longer picked up on anything he said, as she’d once done. Even so, he felt he had something to say.

        “Should have been a linotype operator,” he’d say, “I could have made a mint of money. Then my wife wouldn’t have been left so alone. It’s hardly fair. There’s only the two of us left. She never had a chance.”

        The wife stood without listening. No one understood him. After he died, they found a letter. “By the time I’m gone, I hope you’ll realise that there’s one thing you’ve got to do. I hope you’ll start living. From now on, every day there’s a better world to be found. Or at least you have to find out. If you don’t, there’s no hope.”

      One of the first hits for the name of the game is a listing on the Play.com service. The description says, “DIG DUG is the ultimate hidden object game with over 5 HOURS of free gameplay!
