Description

The AutoCAD family of products has been optimized for both desktop and mobile use and can be run on a variety of platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Acquired by Autodesk in January 2018, Grasshopper is a cloud-based interactive-drawing platform for collaborative design, visualizing parametric design, and real-time collaboration. It is a standalone drawing application and does not require a separate cloud account to run.

Using Grasshopper

Use AutoCAD on a standard Windows desktop.

Users have their own window dedicated to the application, rather than having the active window constantly change. The window features Autodesk’s familiar ribbon and menu bars. The ribbon is used for commands, tools, and settings, while the menus are organized by categories such as Measurements, Geometry, Materials, and so on. Each command on the ribbon has a shortcut key (such as C for command-click or Ctrl+X for command-extend), and each function in the ribbon has a shortcut menu that provides access to commonly used command options.

The shortcut menus feature a color-coded menu for commands. The commands can be accessed by command-clicking on the color-coded menu.

Menu-oriented commands, tools, and layers, also known as tabs, are added to the AutoCAD canvas with the push of a button in the user interface. This feature enables users to add functionality to the application using the tools available, rather than having to learn a set of dedicated commands. The active tab is displayed in the bottom-right corner of the user interface.
