1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a high-pressure casting mold used in the casting of molten steel, in which a void is formed in the mold at the interface between a cavity and a runner by means of a turbulence generator.
2. Description of the Prior Art
Conventionally, a high-pressure casting mold having a turbulence generator used at the runner/cavity interface has been designed in such a way as to have a rough and uneven cavity surface (hereinafter referred to as an irregular cavity surface), as shown in FIG. 1. When molten steel is poured into the mold, the molten steel overflows from the cavities 2 into the adjacent runners 4 due to the irregularities at the interface. Therefore, the irregular cavity surface causes serious erosion of the runner. When erosion becomes severe, the surface of the mold will be worn away and the strength of the mold will be reduced. If erosion is so severe that the surface of the mold is completely worn away, the side wall of the mold will have to be removed to maintain the strength of the mold. When the mold has been repeatedly used, it is difficult to manufacture the mold from the beginning since it is difficult to weld a new mold after removal of the side walls of the mold.
As a means of solving the above-described problem, an irregular cavity surface can be obtained by molding using a fiber reinforced resin, as described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,543,874. However, since the mold made using a fiber reinforced resin is expensive, the manufacturing cost is increased.
