Based on a fifteen-year process of exploring locations in Lithuania, The House in the Woods is a collection of surreal installations which invite you to experience something the game designers have called ‘the space between.’ The game was created to investigate the nature of space and is part of a series of projects by Lithuanian developer and artist Marek Kaluza.

You have recently moved to a new house in the country and like any normal family, you are discovering the secrets and the place’s owner (Mr. Backorov) is keeping them from you.

The House in the Woods is a survival horror game in the traditional 2D pixel graphics genre and is mainly focused on exploration and interaction with the environment. However, the game also focuses on the exploration of “the space between” and is recommended for players of any age.

The game has been developed for Windows, Linux and Mac.

The House in the Woods is an independent game, not affiliated with or endorsed by any corporation or group. This is a single-player game, there is no multiplayer mode.

The game has a 15+ age rating because it contains very unsettling imagery. The imagery should not affect those with a lower age rating.

Introduction

The King is the first in a series of very challenging puzzle games featuring the world famous Suikoden tiles.

The King is all about building enormous floors of obstacles on the way to finishing the level.

All puzzles are made from suikoden tiles in the style of suikoden 1 and 2 and the title is the Japanese equivalent of the english word “king” (i.e. English speakers will be able to relate to this game very easily).

The first level will put you in the shoes of King Harald and his faithful court adviser Boy in order to help him unlock the secrets of the kingdom and the game will then proceed from there.

The King:

The King (sometimes also called The Castle) is a tile-based puzzle adventure game where you have to use your cunning to get the King and his court boy to safety before the guards find them, or they are killed, and then he is locked away forever in the dungeon.

The game features a total of 9 different maps which you can visit and complete in any order you want.

The King:

In the first level, you have to help The King (aka King Harald) and his loyal Boy to get to safety in the castle before the guards discover them, or they are killed.

You will be able to choose from a wide array of game characters, most of them from the popular suikoden tile-based game universe.

You can help out in different ways by rolling the dice with your trusty court adviser Boy. You can also unlock additional bonus characters using the various characters you unlock along the way.

You start the game with a level one weapon, but you will have to complete various tasks in order to unlock the more powerful ones as you advance.

Gameplay wise, you will have to use basic puzzles (using suikoden tiles) and also a bit of more advanced approach (using a maze creator) to help the characters escape from danger, before you can even open the second level.

There is a special kind of buildings that can be used to get the King coin. They cannot be constructed by ordinary workers, but can be built only by a workers that has been assigned a special kit which is not available for free.
If you go to your buildings and look under the construction resources, you can see:

Assigned kits (they are marked with a small padlock)
Workers
Ready for construction
Tall buildings (and their tall buildings)

If you wish to build such an assisted worker, you must build a Tall Building. The construction of a Tall building consumes the workers and therefore you cannot hire an assist further, as the road will be blocked. Once the building is started, you can use the appropriate worker, and work the tree next to the building on.
You can even assign the worker and assign it to a specific building. The worker will then have to run to the building. This is also the case of the Tall building.
The Tall Building can be manned by two workers, but as soon as one of them leaves, the building will not be able to be used anymore. So, if you have a couple of tall buildings (for instance), you can choose the one with the smallest number of assigned workers, and use it whenever you need a extra worker.

I cannot really prove it. But this is the only way I can see to build the King Coin. It might be possible to get the 2 X 10 workers tokens, but these are purchased through the Skill Building, and from what I understand, they cannot be used.

What’s new:

    : Dead Legacy

    Unlock the King 2: Dead Legacy is a Run and Gun sequel to the grand-prize winning game, Unlock the King. Unlocked-King.com developed the game several months after successfully winning the grand prize. The game was released on Xbox Live Arcade, Windows Phone, and Symbian.

    Gameplay
    The only difference in gameplay of the two games is that for Unlock The King 2: Dead Legacy, only two players can play at the same time, because there is a new “freedom movement” that enables players to play co-op and competently against each other. To compete, players must play in groups of two to four, and if the player has one of a handful of special powers, those abilities can be used in any combination. (Unlock The King, being solo and non-cooperative, played much like real-time strategy.)

    A short tutorial helps beginners learn the rules of the game and teaches new players how to use the special move ability. Unlock the King 2: Dead Legacy provides a thorough tutorial with a variety of special events that must be performed in order to receive medals.

    Some levels have new rules to them, such as the rule where you can obtain money by stopping cars that are in your way.

    Matt Birkbeck started development of the game within a couple of weeks and came up with the game’s name based on a random word generator.

    Reception
    On review aggregator GameRankings, the game has an average score of 81%, based on 6 reviews. On Metacritic, the PC version has a score of 88/100, and 74/100 for the Xbox Live Arcade version.

    Robin Ek, of GameZone said the game was “a mix of punishing difficulty and rewarding easiness”, and praised the game’s presentation and challenges.

    Sequel
    A sequel, titled Unlock the King 3: Conquering the Seven Seas, was to have released around Christmas 2009 in Europe and early 2010 in North America, but was delayed until 2011. A large part of the trailer of the game released by Matt Birkbeck boasts this delay, states the reason for the delay is mainly production related, and that the game would be more suited for the early 2011 release than its previous release.
