The present invention relates to a process for the production of Co—Mn—Ni alloys, i.e., alloys having a ratio of Co/Mn/Ni.
2. Description of the Related Art
It is known to use Co—Ni and Co—Mn alloys as material for electrodes in electrical or electronic devices, for example, in storage cells, magnets or in the magnetic cores of transformers. Storage cells are for example rechargeable electric or hybrid batteries. Rechargeable batteries are made up of a plurality of storage cells connected in series and parallel. The role of the electrodes in storage cells is among other things to ensure that the storage cells are capable of being charged or discharged and that during discharge or recharging the cell voltage is not allowed to become too low or too high. A very high charge and discharge capacity are required for batteries for electric or hybrid vehicles.
Co—Ni alloys are often used for the anodes in such storage cells, however the Ni content of the anodes generally should not be too high. Co—Mn alloys are often used for the cathodes in rechargeable batteries. In such rechargeable batteries, the Mn content of the cathodes generally is between 5 and 25 wt. %. A problem associated with such storage cells is the buildup of a water layer at the surface of the storage cell, which water layer can cause an increase in internal resistance and a reduction in capacity.1.
