When I noticed the population size, it became more and more clear to me that Forest Village was never meant to be a life sim, but a life hack. Hunt, chop wood, and farm. Repeat.
Once youve lived through many years of extreme attrition, youll know that you dont have to have all the luxuries of life. Its all about whether or not you feel like having two hands when youre ready to die.
The next thing to build is the new group of houses. These are the shacks of my village, which act as home and shelter for my people. Theyre cheap to build and make the villagers feel more comfortable. Because I want to avoid the random amounts of death, I build shacks every night, and have a new chunk of land ready for my family when theyre all born. A reliable mod.

forest village happens to be the same type of game as a few others we’ve seen on the site over the years. all the way back in 1998, we’ve seen games with a similar formula of crafting, resource gathering, and building buildings for the city-building genre of games, and that’s forest village. so, it’s not especially unique in that regard. it’s a very pretty game. it’s a well-crafted game, with well-implemented mechanics. it’s got lots of really pretty graphics. there’s not a lot of differentiating ways it is from other city-building games that we’ve seen elsewhere, but it’s a really cool game. the story for the game is also rather interesting. you’ve got a small group of people trying to move to new lands. they’ve landed on an island with a few strangers on the beach and it’s your job as the leader of the group to help them make a new settlement and ensure its prosperity. and that’s more or less the gist of the game. the really cool part is the fact that you can play in first-person mode. so, this means that you actually can see exactly what’s going on. you can see exactly what your people are doing in the buildings. and this is really cool for a lot of reasons. it’s certainly immersion-inducing. it’s also nice because, if you do happen to lose a few people, or if there’s not as many people as you thought, you don’t have to worry about the whole city blowing up as soon as your people leave it. and, you know, the game is actually kind of free. there’s no money in the game, or unlock requirements. it’s more or less a game in which you do exactly what you want, and the game lets you get you to exactly where you want. it’s pretty approachable for the most part, and it’s fairly easy to pick up the basics of the game and then get on with. you can play the game in a number of ways, and a number of different difficulty levels, so you can basically get exactly what you want out of the game.
