‘Mutant Reverb is a mono-to-stereo reverb plugin with a built-in ducker; perfect for vocals, percussion, synths and many other applications where you need precise control of reverb tails. Adding reverb to sounds gives warmth, character and places the sound in a real-world space. However, big problems arise when a reverb tail masks the clarity of the original signal, resulting in a muddy and undefined sound. Mutant Reverb is the solution, in just a couple of clicks you can duck the reverb processing out of the way of the original audio without any complicated side-chain or compression routing. Just plug and play.’
All the modulation mayhem does come at cost, though. The developer does not hide the fact that Phase Mutant generates inevitable latency. Depending on the settings, it ranges between 1 and 50 ms. This cannot be avoided because the plug-in always has to look ahead in the audio stream. Be mindful of that when introducing the plug-in to latency-sensitive projects.

mutant reverb is designed to run under the coreaudio/audiounit framework. the underlying framework does provide a whole lot of functionality for audio processing, but it is also tricky to work with on macosx. the previous version of mutant reverb was designed to work under carbon/carbonstudio, but has been transformed to work with aqua/carbon in the past few months, and the macosx version will be the same.
mutant reverb is built using the carbon/carbonstudio framework, and so it can work with augraph. it is possible to build mutant reverb with the coreaudio framework, but this is very difficult to use and requires a lot of handwork to make it work well.
there are a few methods to use augraph, but the easiest way is to make sure that the core audio framework is configured to load the correct frameworks for your system. the easiest way to do this is to use the -framework option when creating the application. this will cause mutant reverb to be built with the correct frameworks and settings. the other way to do this is to use the -ccoreaudio or -ccoreauo switches.
this method will cause mutant reverb to be built using the core audio framework and the correct settings. the -ccoreaudio switch will turn on carbon compatibility and the -ccoreauo switch will turn on audiounit compatibility. the audiounit compatibility is not really required to use augraph, but you might need it if you plan on using the -ausampler or -aucymbalunit classes.
the carbon framework includes the core audio framework, but the current version of mutant reverb has a few problems with it. the first of these is the core audio framework is not actually loaded if the -framework option is used. this means that a lot of the api is missing.
