Battlefield 3 is the best mainstream shooter since the original Modern Warfare. The fact that the game has stuck to its formula has given the single player the one thing the game needed above all else; Exclusivity. Although all the teams involved have had major input, it is clear to see how the game has been designed as, whilst everything else in the game is familiar, the graphics are modern, the interface flawless, and the frame rate decent without having to make a choice.
The five maps are bright and colourful and range from somewhere cool to somewhere bleak. The familiar themes of urban and rural are mixed together in a fresh way and whilst I dont doubt that a huge number of players will already be familiar with these, its clear that you cant get a true sense of them until the game is released. Each map feels fresh because youre playing on them for the first time, and hell, its only Beta, and theres no way Im going to justify that this game is anything but polished in its current state.
It doesnt take more than one or two games to see how this game has taken everything thats good about today and made it yesterday. Sadly, I will not be able to move onto it until the beta period has been completed and the final game is released, so I will have to suck it up and somehow pick up the pieces when it inevitably falls by the wayside.
Bungie have made a game that both reminds you of its heritage and improves on the formula that made the game great in the first place. The game has great features, brilliant graphics, a great interface and a great gameplay formula to rival that of any game on the market, with Battlefield 3 being a legitimate contender for Game of the Year. Its clean, fresh and free from any fluff. Its just one of those games that are made for the gamers and to do what games do; bring us hours and hours of fun.
This sounds like the same problem I had in Battlefield 2. Happens to me randomly as well. The mouse pointer gets all zippy, zips around, and can end up being extremely slow to control. The only way to fix this is to change your settings to something like “Low Pointer Accuracy” or something like that. You may need to play with your graphics settings to get it to the point where it’s not so weird. I did not fix this so I’m not sure if it’ll be fixed in the patch.
Keep working on your chances of getting it to work. Most things are reported to be able to work, although none have been seen to work 100% at the moment. try going in safe mode and uninstalling everything you can. Even though BF3 is at the end of it’s life cycle, the good people at DICE have already started working on the next iteration of their online military shooters and are releasing the new version before the end of the year. Battlefield 3 will launch for the PlayStation 3 on August 21st on the Xbox 360 on August 28th and on the PC on October 29th. All players should have the game by November.
