the first film was a bit more disjointed as it was trying to be everything to everyone. here ‘thor: the dark world’ really finds its groove and focuses on its main characters. it’s a fun and entertaining film that should have more than just a limited theatrical run. i’m happy to see it get a full-blown blu-ray release to show off its great visuals and excellent audio.
‘thor: the dark world’ is not for everyone. if you’re going to look for something to enjoy and have some laughs then this is a good film to enjoy. if you’re a fan of marvel’s ‘avengers’ universe and are looking for an action movie that matches the quality of the comics then this movie is for you.
more high marks here. provided with a dts-hd master audio 7.1 track, ‘thor: the dark world’ uses every single bit of audio real estate possible. this is an enveloping track. this is one of those 7.1 tracks where you’ll wonder how you ever lived without those side channels feeding you extra information.

the problem with ‘thor: the dark world,’ is that the arc of the film, and its entire plot, has been done before, either in the comics, or in other movies. it’s not new. it’s not exciting. it’s not even that well written. the entire movie has the feel of a comic book movie that’s been transformed, through a process of dumbing down and dumbing down some more, into a movie. that is not a good thing. in fact, i wish i had never seen this movie, because the only interesting thing about it is the presence of chris hemsworth, natalie portman, tom hiddleston, and the rest of the cast. the plot is so meandering and disjointed, that it’s impossible to get into. the opening of the film features a lecture on the importance of physics and space travel. it’s the dumbest thing i’ve seen in a movie in a long time. the entire movie has a similar feel. it’s only once the thor character gets his mojo going, does the movie come to life.
“thor: ragnarok” is the 19th entry in the thor film franchise. the film follows the “fantastic four” style of thor as he must return to earth after being banished to space by odin. loki has taken control of asgard and has imprisoned the all-father on the planet sakaar. since the events of “thor: the dark world,” sakaar has become a desert planet, which is where the heroes must travel in order to find the imprisoned odin. the film also stars tom hiddleston, idris elba, tessa thompson, anthony hopkins, cate blanchett, mark ruffalo, jeff goldblum, karl urban, and sir anthony hopkins.
after the events of thor: the dark world, thor and the rest of the characters are given a new life on earth. the film follows the humorous adventures of thor and loki as they start to navigate their first day of high school. loki has a plan to take over the universe, and the heroes must stop him. the film is made for and mostly targeted at adults, but it does include some humor. the film doesn’t have any major action sequences. however, the action sequences aren’t bad either. the film has a simple but effective premise. thor: ragnarok is a good movie to watch if you want to see a comedic adventure that doesn’t have a lot of action or drama.
