the biggest change is that the game has a lot more variety than its predecessor. instead of just going through the same areas for hours on end, the player now explores the world in side-scrolling segments. this is very much like the side-scrolling segments in legend of zelda games, but they don’t take up so much of the player’s time. instead, they add a lot of variety to the game.
it might not be any better in the long run, but right now it’s a hell of a lot of fun. if you like that style of game, it’s probably worth a shot. because i’m not sure what else there is out there like it.
disclosure: i’m contracted to ninja theory, which makes this review a bit more official. it’s not a normal fan review, however. there’s no real point in me making any money from this. see the privacy policy for more information.
the scope of the plot is a little disappointing. most of the events in the story take place at a mysterious city called ‘sharn’. if that sounds vaguely familiar, it’s because the first time you see it is during the cutscene at the top of this article.
the city is the final destination of a slave raid. the leader of that raid is a guy who resembles a combination of the top two bosses from dark souls, and who makes a big deal about how he’s ‘leading’ the raid. the story itself is a gaggle of decent characters and the odd grisly monster, and the quest chain that you are able to pursue is a fairly standard ancient scroll quest, with some clever twists. if you went in expecting a souls-like, then you are going to be sorely disappointed.
the current build is still in development. we’re doing some big balancing, working on some new abilities, and working on the melee system a bit. in addition, we’ve added a lot of new attacks, and fixed a lot of bugs. we’re still working on a bunch of non-gameplay stuff, but we’re planning to have it done soon. we’re also working on new environments. there’s a lot of open areas, and a lot of interesting things to do there.
this is a demo of an unfinished game. certain features may not work as expected. certain features may be missing. there may be spelling errors. the title screen may not appear. it may be missing sound, music, or both. there may be some exciting crashes.
the main menu is now far more user friendly. we’ve removed the items section, and added a general settings section, which should make changing a lot of settings much easier. we’ve also made the menu a bit more compact.
there are a few more new items, and some new abilities. i’m trying to find the balance right now between making the game too easy, and too hard. if you have any ideas, suggestions, or comments, please let us know.
we’ve added a new map, a new boss, and a new weapon. we’ve also added a new type of creature. we’ve added a new set of abilities, and a new character class. there are a few new items, and a few new monsters.
souls is defined by the places you go, the enemies you encounter and the heroes you meet. it’s easy to overlook as a one-off type game, but once you put in the time and find the right combination of dark souls 2 cheatsstrategy to your liking, it will feel like it’s never left. the sense of wonder that permeates the soulsborne universe and its attendant lore is at once comforting and heartrending. to my mind, i’d rather play something that’s heartwarming than something that’s heartrending any day.
