note: xprotect doesn’t seem to detect modifications/additions of existing mods. spore dark injection uses a specific file layout to modify.rw4 and.pctp textures. this layout has been created to make packers be able to recognise which model is being modified/added to a file. although it works, there are a few downsides:
hookaxe – is the only mod for darkspore, it allows the player to choose if they want to remove items from a hero’s inventory using a quick select menu, or it allows you to collect items in the hero’s inventory, using a inventory key.
if you have any of the files from the darkspore mod (raster.dds, raster.xml, textures, textures.xml, and texture_darkspore.dds), then you can import them into spore-dark injection and have the textures show up when you load up the mod. however, the same applies to the files that were changed by spore-dark injection. if you have any of those files, you can also import them into darkspore (as long as you don’t have to use the spore modapi mod to get them to import) and they’ll show up in the mod.
the first thing that you’ll notice is that everything is completely different. the in-game menus are completely new, the main menu is a more streamlined and user friendly experience, and most of the load times are gone. the game also has a new user interface, and you can fully customize this as you see fit. the game also has a new look, but some of the interface elements are slightly different. for example, the inventory is now one of those drop down menus instead of a list and they also moved the quick filter to the bottom of the list. the player is now a bit more animated in the cutscenes, but they are still static, and the default skin is back to the original spore look. the playable animal and creature files are also different, and for the most part are a lot more in line with what you’re used to in spore.
