The CPU and GPU (and Memory) can get quickly overwhelmed with high res, heavy denoising and sharpening tasks, so a good preventative maintenance strategy is to crop photos to a smaller size, before starting on image processing. It can be difficult to get exactly what you want out of a single photo (and/or video), so cropping your photos to a more reasonable size can help the software do a better job. In some cases, the UI in Topazs Photo AI can become unresponsive when there are lots of very large files with a large array of geometric deformations. Use the Load UI command to quell this itch.
Then youll need to allow enough memory in the Topaz AI engine. On my machine, this works out to about a gig of free space for 16.4MP+ RAW files (which is pushing the Outer limits of what the software can do).
Youll find two primary ways to use Topaz. You can either preview and enhance one photo at a time, or you can create one of two new files, either one that contains multiple frames, or a single HD frame. You can then perform the same enhancement process on that frame or on each individual frame of the file. Each file type also has different settings, but theyre all pretty well-documented. Even if youre novices at computer software, this isnt too hard.
If you want to sharpen, boost colors, add frames, and add noise, Topaz is your man. Its more concerned with the broad strokes of photo quality than the fine-grain details, so it often creates images that are crisper and more detailed than you might expect.
