Night Vision is an open-source “planetarium” application that displays the heavens from any provided location on earth.
Viewing options allow the user to control which sky objects to display, which font to use, and manipulation of various star parameters. Time may be set to run at multiple speeds, including backwards. Star charts may be printed.

– Keyboard control of most applications. To use it, hold down the [left
or right CTRL] key while typing your desired keystroke.

– For numeric entry, press [ENTER] after inputting a number. For any input

– KEYWAZ can be used as a macro for most keyboard functions. To define a

sequences of actions and you can use this option as a teaching tool

– Using the mouse to control the application is no longer possible.

– If you need to get a keymacro working, please consult the “HOWTO” for
the most up to date information.

BUGS:

– The mouse is disabled in the main menu.

– The 32-bit versions of the main screen and star browser screens have
been replaced by the 64-bit versions.

– The menus have been replaced by a set of fixed buttons.

– Two menu buttons have been omitted.

– Some of the 8.2Ghz presets have been re-run.

– Custom Keymacros may not work with certain drivers.

Installation:

– Use the supplied INCLUDE.DLL to make the next steps easier.

– Launch the “setup.exe” file.

– On the welcome page, hit “Next” until the checkbox is checked.

– On the next page, select the menu “Disk&Partitions”

– Select the drive “Programs” and hit “Next”

– Hit “Next” to accept the current settings

– Hit “Finish”

– Hit “Next” and then click on “Install”

Prerequisites

It is recommended that you use the Night Vision software in conjunction with an online star catalogue to locate your desired stars. The Night Vision software cannot be used to locate stars.

When viewing the night sky from a relatively bright star, the Night Vision software
will display the stars and constellations on the screen.

When observing at a dark location away from urban light pollution, the Night Vision software will display the night sky in white with the stars and constellations outlined.

Supported locations

The Night Vision software allows the user to view the night sky from any location on earth.

The software can be run from a desktop PC, a laptop, a tablet, a smartphone or from within the cloud.

When viewing a location within a day and within a latitude of 30 degrees from the equator, the software will display the night sky from above the user’s head. The software can also be configured to display the night sky in one of the following three modes:

– Night mode: The night sky is displayed with the stars and constellations outlined.
– Bright mode: The night sky is displayed with the stars and constellations highlighted.
– Night mode with periods: The night sky is displayed with the stars and constellations outlined, and the period of time displayed in seconds will be displayed in the top left of the screen.

On desktop/laptop computers

Step 1. Obtain and extract a nightly build of Night Vision from the Night Vision website. On Linux, use the instructions at the Night Vision website. On Mac or PC, download the latest Night Vision nightly build from the Night Vision website.

Step 2. Make sure that Java is installed on your machine.

Step 3. Open a terminal window or SSH session and run the following command:

Performs an animated sky simulation for any location on earth.
The display can be centered on any point, however the cursor is shown at the center.
The position of the cursor is user adjustable by the set CursorField.
The sky field is up to 800×800 pixels wide and as long as needed for the entire sky.
The user can view the stars and planets without any textual interferences.
The star and planets are displayed with up to 300 stars per page.
If the screen is to small to display all the stars, the background is switched to black with the stars visible on top of it.
You may zoom in by moving your mouse to a location on the screen and by pressing the mouse button.
Use the mouse wheel to change the view (zoom in or out).
When you release the mouse button the zoom will revert to the original zoom factor.
The zoom factor may be defined by the ZoomFactor integer.
The scale factor may be defined by the ScaleFactor integer.
When you move the cursor back and forth over the map there is a blue indicator on the cursor that is displayed at half the zoom value.

When you zoom out you can zoom out with the scale factor set by the ScaleFactor integer. The zoom factor is set by the ZoomFactor integer. The scale may be set by the ScreenSize integer. The screen size is defined by the ScreenSize integer.
When the mouse is over the stars there is an indicator on the cursor that displays the stars in the zoom factor.
The time may be set to run backwards (1 hour backwards) or forwards.
The time may be set to run at different speeds by using one of the integers which define the time’s scale. The number of steps per second (1/speed) is set by ScaleStep.
The time may be set to display just a particular date or it may display the entire time series (an epoch). The epoch may be set by Epoch.
The numbers and fields displayed in the table at the bottom are user defined.

To install:

1. Unpack the “ncurses.tgz” file.
2. Extract the “bin” and “data” folders into your Ncurses installation directory.
3. You may also move the “bin” folder into your Ncurses installation directory and create a symbolic link for the “bin” folder using the command: ln -s /path/to/your/ncurses/installation/dir/bin /path/to/your/ncurses/installation/dir/bin

To use:

1. Start the “ncurses” application in the “bin” folder by typing: ./ncurses
2. Optionally set the cursor field by typing
