Python: Logging is not working when run as script with subprocess module

I’m trying to write a python script to call python subprocesses and test an output file. If I run the script as a script with python myscript.py, it runs as expected, but when run as a subprocess with python myscript.py -u, it doesn’t run correctly. Logging doesn’t work either. Below is the most basic python script I can write to get the basic problem. I’ve put print statements in various points to test things, and the print statements never run.
