    This review is based on the PS Vita version of the game.

    After the release of the critically acclaimed game The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel last year, Nihon Falcom has finally released a new RPG game under their AAA umbrella.

    As it has always been with Falcom games, the action RPG is well worth a play, and is packed with a lot of content. For RPG fans looking for a new experience, this is one game you should keep an eye on.

    Story

    As a fan of Falcom’s Fate series, I am both excited and saddened by Nihon Falcom’s decision to put this game under their “AAA” brand. On the one hand, the game is available on both the PS4 and the PS Vita platforms, and there is nothing that you cannot do on both consoles.

    On the other hand, the game is not free to play, with the first playthrough taking around 25 hours to complete.

    The story of the game begins with a group of students at the Red Base Academy who come across a secret base of the Iron Alliance in the Lands Between. In order to gain power, the player characters begin to take jobs at the underground base in return for large sums of money. There they are able to obtain much more experience than normal.

    After the player completes the prologue chapters, they start a new story that is intertwined with and builds upon the player’s previous journey.

    The story is written by original series writer Hiromasa Shikata who in the past has worked with Falcom on writing for games like the Trauma Center series and Fate/Stay Night.

    Characters & Replay Value

    The game is completely playable without unlocking any of the game’s characters. Each character has a unique story that is told from the perspectives of their past and present. As each character has two sides to them, the story will evolve differently depending on your choice of side.

    Depending on the combination of weapons and armor that you have equipped, you are able to engage in battle using various combos. Different weapons have different effects and abilities, from firing up shields, to healing or increasing your statistics.

    Equipment and statistics are expanded upon much like in the games in the Trails series. You can raise the statistics by getting fights to increase stamina or strength, as well as strengthening your weapons.

    Within the sand, you can find a sunken town, which can give you a discount on the price of the main construction building.
    The leveling up you can obtain:
    Leveling up +10 from book. After you choose the laborer, the items you already bought decrease in price by half.
    The more building materials you collect, the faster the leveling up. A level-10 laborer will be worth about 5,000 paper money.
    In the world, only a few powerful monsters are present.
    But as you level up, the character becomes stronger and the monsters become more vicious.
    Note: You must progress to clearing the sand to fill the main construction building and the warehouse.
    1.3. How to Choose the Way
    Which should you choose?
    The most valuable ways are: First-Time Clear method or Killing-Monster Clear method.
    First-Time Clear method
    Clear black sand using the main construction building in each chapter.
    This is a normal easy-to-clear method.
    Killing-Monster Clear method
    This is a special method.
    After clearing away black sand using the main construction building, you can fight monsters to get some black sand.

    Is there a value in forward referencing properties?

    The reference documentation says that:

    Each property access is actually a call to the corresponding property method on the object. The value of property that is returned depends on the property’s definition.

    So if I have the following code:

I can imagine it can get confusing if a method returns a value (which would be the case if we just referenced a property) versus a function (which is what’s returned when we use the method) so maybe that’s what the documentation is trying to prevent.

    There is absolutely no reason to do this – the purpose of closures is to allow code to refer to the scope it was created in (which is a clean and simple approach).
    You should always create the method for the correct reason – the intention should be obvious.
