History
In the late 1980s, the software industry experienced tremendous growth, and both CAD users and CAD software developers increased in number. However, there were also significant drawbacks, including the complexity of CAD software systems and the need for CAD professionals to become experts in a field they were not trained in. AutoCAD supports many programming languages, but the most commonly used and widely supported programming languages are C++, AutoLISP, and Visual LISP. All versions of AutoCAD contain a C++ command extension library that can be used by programmers to develop custom add-ons, macros, and components. In AutoCAD 2008, scripting of AutoCAD features was introduced. This feature allows programmers to develop custom macro language applications for the Windows and Macintosh versions of the software. Other languages include VBA, the Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications, VBScript, the Visual Basic for Applications scripting language, and.NET.
AutoCAD 2014 included Adobe Flash vector editing. The original version of AutoCAD was released in 1982. AutoCAD 2017 continued this feature and also added the ability to import and export OpenDocument and Autodesk DWF files as well as Export Graphics to GitHub, Plone or OwnCloud.
AutoCAD is developed by the AutoCAD team in a new version of the shared source code tree, known as the VCS (version control system).
