How to disallow a type from being used as a key in a dictionary?
I have a class called Item that stores an ID, an image, and a Name. This class is used in a.NET application to store bookmarks, and I want to store a bunch of items in a dictionary. I want to disallow a user from changing the data of the Item object by changing the ID of the object, by a different type of operation (like changing the ID in an edit form, or using a Task.Delay).
I looked into the TryUpdateModel method on the model, but I’m not sure if it is actually solving the problem.
Is it possible to check the value of a property on an item, and if it’s null or something else than a string, raise a validation exception? If not, what can I do? (I don’t want to waste time trying to store the ID twice, like ItemId1 and ItemId2 etc. I want to force the user to store the value of the property on the data store, just like you can’t change the ID, Name, or Image of a database record, just the data).
