The Sandusky dad of one of the 12 victims said prosecutors and the judge got their facts wrong — both during the trial and now the sentencing — and he plans to speak out.
Robert Scott spoke with “The Jerry Springer Show” and delivered a message for those who crucified Penn State coach Joe Paterno, and the judge who sentenced the former coach to jail for his child-molestation conviction.
“They should be on trial,” Scott told Springer.
Paterno was found guilty of child-abuse in 2012, but the judge suspended a sentence and placed him on probation. He was sentenced to a 2-to-4 year prison term, which could be reduced if he successfully completes a plan to avoid further contact with children.
As we reported, Paterno testified in his own defense at trial and told the judge his relationship with Sandusky was “probably the last time I was the father type.”
“I definitely took it hard, I felt sick about it… it was the last thing on the planet that I expected or wanted to have happen,” Paterno said.
But Scott tells Springer the sentence doesn’t fit the crime — he said Sandusky raped his son, then went on to do it to others.
“Joe took a lot of shit for a lot of things,” Scott said. “He didn’t molest any of his kids. You don’t put a convicted child molester in the state prison.”
Scott’s message to the judge, who is set to retire, is to take a long, hard look at the testimony and the argument.
“Both the prosecution and defense got their facts wrong,” Scott said. “They got the sentencing part wrong. They got the credibility and lies of the witnesses wrong.
