silent hunter 5 is a fairly simple game, at least at first. you can take control of one of eight submarines, each with slightly different characteristics. the differences primarily come down to the torpedoes you have, which are either standard, armor-piercing, or magnetic; the number of reloads you have, which is either unlimited or limited; and your choice of two periscopes, which are either high or low. the game is also extremely easy, so easy that you can probably play the first few hours without even taking a single shot. for the most part, you simply plot a course, drop off a load of cargo, sink the merchant ship, and make your way back to port. if you make it back alive, you move on to the next merchant ship. at first, it’s all very routine, but the further you get into the game, the more it goes haywire. the more ships you sink, the more often your torpedoes will over-torpedo themselves and go into a wild splashing frenzy that will tear your boat apart, and the more often you’ll have to go to the dive tanks to cool off. the game’s difficulty ramps up sharply in the final third of the game, as the difficulty of surviving the game’s final mission becomes almost impossible without diving tanks. in the final battle, an unknown number of approaching ships, an unknown number of torpedoes, and an unknown number of keels that don’t want to be seen begin to threaten the fate of the silent hunter, and the game becomes the most nerve-wracking thing you’ll ever play.
To fix the problem on game startup, you must do two things: 1. Open the Properties of the game, on Extras Tab, choose the option use installation path (Always use this version) 2. Copy the game directory to C:\Program Files\Codeproject\Silent Hunter
Silent Hunter 5 1.2 is a fully patched version which fixes a lot of ingame issues like poor fire effect on weapons, poor handling of powerup weapons and auto-sniper/rifle-range mode, can’t guess in night missions because of the white room… many bugs. The patches in this package will make the game playable and should make the game more fun if all the ingame bugs are fixed.

As you move from room to room aboard an Italian U-boat sunk during the Allied invasion of the Balkans in 1944, you are ushered through gauzy hallways and along narrow corridors decked in yellow orchids in long plastic pots, which, at least in this version, are more like spiny yellow bugs crawling over the plant than orchids themselves. And, to add to the abomination, about 90 percent of the time you find these floral icons out of reach, on ledges that are near impossible to slide your fingers onto. The opening chapters of Silent Hunter 5 are a sight to behold, because this time around, they take place in an exploding submarine after it’s hit with a torpedo. Blood is sprayed across the walls and splashes up and down the hallway, and you’re given instructions to play amateur doctor and bandage the injured — at least for now. (In the demo, you get to pretend to help Petty Officer Emanuel before falling asleep at your side station.) In a later part of the game, you assume command of an Italian diesel U-boat, and the limited size of the dialogue tree makes it so you’re always having to stop and issue commands. The calm of the older Silent Hunter games is replaced with a more hardcore approach, especially in combat. In Silent Hunter 4: Battle of the Atlantic, underwater bells would occasionally toll at the beginning of each mission; in this game, they ring much more often. And while hunting German subs usually means you’re on the offensive, Silent Hunter 5 makes you feel like you’ve got a war on your hands; every shot and counter-shot has real consequences. You need to carefully plot your next attack, or you could lose precious torpedo maneuvers and reloads in an instant. That’s why the non-combat parts of Silent Hunter 5 are so vital to a compelling whole. While the combat in Silent Hunter 5 is a bit more progressive than its predecessors, it’s still tinged by some of the shortcomings of World War II games. One of the things that really hit home is the brutishness of tanks and armor at the time. Though this isn’t really the fault of Ubisoft and its developers (vehicles in the game look and behave quite differently from each other), it’s unfortunate that so many people play World War II games with the idea that soldiers in the final years of the conflict were actually more noble and heroic, because their tanks and planes didn’t deserve the reputation they’ve got.
