you can also use a treasure hunt for this activity. you can draw a word out on a piece of paper and hide it in a room. with each time they guess the word they can say another word beginning with it. you should set up many words you can quickly write out for them. this activity works best if youre showing an example of the letter or sound on the card to get them to remember it.

tip for this activity: make sure your child is standing close enough to the word you have on the paper so they can easily see it. if your child has a difficult time seeing the word then place it on a table to eliminate that distraction.

you can also make little names out of your children letters. on a piece of paper you draw a row of letters and a heading or title. you can then write out the names for your child. make sure you write it out in the correct case (e.g. monday and not monday). if your child is stillnt understanding phonics at this stage you can slowly increase the accuracy of your child. for instance if their name is amina you could say “a-mina, a-moe, a-my, a-mina, a-mina, amina.” if they can follow that, then try “emmy”, etc.

make sure you keep all of the names you made! if your child sees one of their names they can also practice a letter or sound and say it. you can help them to identify the letter or sound as you make them names out.

this activity is really great to practice attention skills as your child learns to pay attention to the details as well as their friends repeating what they hear. this is a great activity to add in before bed, so your child doesnt fall asleep to a roaring fire or when their eyes are tired and they cant focus.
