I’m using Json.NET to deserialize some JSON data from a 3rd-party server (used to be encoded using.NET version 1.1, but I’m looking to upgrade it anyway).
I’ve written the following code to capture the exception and return false instead of deserializing the data and then catching the exception.

It works great for a lot of data, but for some it throws an exception.
There are two possible exceptions to the exception (e.g. JSONException is thrown). One is JSONException: There is an error processing the JSON string and the second is JSONException: Could not convert string to DateTime.
The second one is thrown because the value in the JSON string represents the date of the post, but I’m trying to parse it as a string of numbers, and as a string it doesn’t parse correctly (to my knowledge).
For example, if the value in the JSON string is something like {date: “1324678618”} then I get the error JSONException: Could not convert string to DateTime.
However, if the value is something like “1324678618” then it works just fine.
I’d like to somehow be able to check the value is a string or int, and then if it’s a string convert it to a DateTime. That way I can use TryParse instead of having to check and cast.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a method to convert the string to DateTime. I’ve been trying to use Parse, TryParse, TryParseEx
