What are Podcasts?
Podcast means a broadcast in the form of a tone recording from the host (the person speaking in the podcast) who talks about a certain topic. Initially, this audio broadcast was only available for iPod users. And from there it appears that the terms that have the meaning of podcast are “iPod” and “broadcast”. However, there are also opinions stating that “pod” for podcasts stands for “play on demand”, “personal on demand” and “portable on demand”. From the history of the term, another definition of a podcast is a broadcast in the form of audio that can be played at any time by listeners. Podcasts VS Radio
Radio and podcasts are media that carry the audio type. The similarity of the characteristics of radio with podcasts is a subject that is being discussed whether podcasts are a substitute for radio media. Based on this research, radio and podcasts are media in Indonesia that can occur side by side.
As many as 48.52% of respondents said they still listen to the radio even though they are familiar with podcasts. in both cases, 51.47% of respondents in this research actually listen to podcasts more often. However, podcasts outperform radio by only a 2.9% margin. This means that the two media still receive high interest in society.
Even though it is relatively new, the acquisition of the intensity of listening to podcasts compared to radio indicates that this media content has won hearts in Indonesia. This is because as many as 71.13% of the public have listened to a podcast at least once in the last six months.
Types of Podcasts
The types of tone recordings in podcasts are divided into three types. The basis used to choose the type of podcast is the method used by the host when recording.
1. Solo Podcasts
As the name implies, a solo podcast is a type of recording that is performed by one host in a monologue. That is, the total content of the podcast recording is read in one direction without anyone speaking.
Generally, solo podcast topics are in the form of discussing the opinion of the host regarding a topic that is currently viral, reading stories submitted by listeners, or providing information about something.
2. Interview Podcasts
If previously the solo type only contained 1 host, the podcast interview is a type that contains dialogue between several people in the context of an interview.
Guests or resource persons who are invited do not need to consist of only 1 person, but can also be in the form of a group. Podcast interview guests are people who will be different in each episode, according to the theme presented.
3. Multihost Podcasts
Finally, there is a type of podcast that is hosted by several hosts at once. Multiplehost or multihost podcast is a type of recording in the form of a discussion from several speakers’ perspectives on a topic.
